What is An Altar Server?
An altar server serves as an assistant to the priest and deacon during the liturgy. During the mass, they perform various tasks such as holding up liturgical books for the priest, carrying the cross and processional candles, and assisting with the preparation of the gifts.
What is so Special about Being an Altar Server?
Other than the priest and deacons, no one else has the opportunity to participate so closely in the preparation of the Eucharist. Everything they do is a witness to their love of Jesus in the celebration of the Mass.
Who Can Become an Altar Server?
At St. Robert Bellarmine, altar servers are young men and women who display a desire for an intimate union with our Lord. Before officially becoming an altar server, all applicants must complete a training course (in-person at the church) in which they are instructed on how to perform all necessary duties and responsibilities with dignity and reverence.
