Saint Robert Bellarmine

Description of the Drawing:
"Christ's Call to the Priesthood"

In the center of the drawing stands the powerful figure of Christ. He is wearing the Stole, the sign that He is the eternal Priest. Everyone else is participating in His priesthood. Behind Him there is a symbolic church structure. He is a very loving figure, inviting and embracing two young men who offer themselves to Him totally, unconditionally. He receives them and ordains them to be His priests.
In the background we see three other young men coming. They are symbolic of three acts leading to the priesthood. From left to right: The first one hears the call of God that inspires him and draws him. The figure in the middle prepares himself to fulfill the call. He holds a book and gives himself to learning about the priestly vocation and knowledge. The third figure reflects, he is ready to give up worldly selfishness and starts out to come to Christ and serve His Church.
On the Stole of Christ as well as in the middle of the church structure we notice the sign of the cross. It reminds us that the Priest has to embrace the cross, a life of sacrifice and the perfect following of Christ.

Father, in every generation you provide ministers of Christ and the Church.
We come before you now, asking that you call forth more men to serve our Archdiocese in the ministerial priesthood.
Give us priests who will lead and guide your holy people gathered by Word and Sacrament.
Bless us with priestly vocations so that we can continue to be a truly Eucharistic Church, strengthened in our discipleship of Jesus Christ, your Only Son.
Raise up, we pray, men who are generous in their service, willing to offer their lives and all their gifts for your greater glory and for the good of your people.

How You Can Help

The drawing, "Christ's Call to the Priesthood," was designed for the Vocation Program at St. Robert Bellarmine Parish by noted artist Isabel Piczek. Isabel's work is seen throughout the world and we are privileged to have a number of her stained glass windows right here in our sanctuary.
The prayer and the illustration on this page are part of the on-going effort at St. Robert Bellarmine Church to bring awareness for the need for priestly vocations. We ask that you routinely, or even when you have a free moment or two during your busy day, take the time to reflect, not only on our Church's great and timely need for priests, but also to remember and encourage all those men currently in formation to the priesthood.
With your support and God's grace the challenge will be answered!
